Arcadi Blasco, of Mutxamiel (Alicante), Spain, is a recognized artist and member of the I.A.C. (International Academy for Ceramics, Switzerland). In this documentary we witness the process by which a large-scale architectural sculpture is made using over 200 different pieces and measuring some 3 metres in height. The process in this case is different from that used by Mestre, and firing was done over one year in a wood kiln built by the artist himself. In one section of the film, Blasco gives us a brief historical introduction to Mediterranean ceramics, interspersed with shots of Neolithic pieces from the Valencia Prehistory Museum, Iberian ceramics from the archeological site of L'Alcudia de Elche, plus the Mudéjar towers in Teruel, all of which are important influences in the artist's work. Finally, Blasco reflects on the possibilities of using ceramics for research into the field of art. |
